Wilhelm Wagenfeld: Bauhaus lamp

Wilhelm Wagenfeld´s Bauhaus lamp has become famous for being a unique piece of art, which you still can find as a reedition in our collection of modern classic furniture design. Its foot is made of glass or chrome, the lampshade consists of opal glass. Initially created 1923 it has survived as a symbol of an unique epoch in the history of modern art and then as a expression of modern contemporary design.

The German Bauhaus Design Movement had an important impact on the development of Modern Design and Architecture in the twentieth century. It was truly avant-garde in it's techniques and ideas.

Wagenfeld experienced his artistic education and refined his skills as a craftsman at the Bauhaus between 1923 and 1925, specializing in metal processing. He also teached later on in Weimar from 1926-1930. His design style was clear, rational but nevertheless oriented towards simple beauty when designing his everyday objects. An important chapter in his biography has been marked by his industrial works for two companies: for Schott & Gen. (Jena), later as director for the Vereinigten Lausitzer Glaswerke (VLG) in Weißwasser

1931-1935 and 1949 Wilhelm Wagenfeld worked as well as university teacher: he was appointed professor in Berlin. After World War II he made a contract with the Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF)(1949)and founded his own workshop in Stuttgart (1954) focused on models for the industry.

Even if its creator hasn´t become as prominent as other members of the Bauhaus period Wagenfeld´s Bauhaus lamp still remains a worldwide respected work of art.
